Dall Sheep are a species
of sheep native to northwestern areas of North America. They can
variations of color ranging from white to an almost slate brown
colors.
The horns are one of their most distinguising features. Dall
Sheep begin growing from the time they are born through their entire
lives.
Both males and femals have horns. The males horns can grow
incredible full curl, and more, horns. When males are young, say
thier first three years their horns are a small as females and be
mistaken for female sheep, known as ewes. The female ewe's horns are
a lot smaller, shorter, slender and usually only a minor curve.
Sheep horns grow year round however, sheep horns grow much slower
in winter. This change in growth creates "rings" that is often used
to help measure the age of the sheep.
Dall Sheep can live a long time but the average life-span is
about 7-8 years, however a 10-12 year old sheep is considered old.
